A lot people have been asking about what is appropriate to wear to the wedding, so we thought it would be a good idea to make some suggestions.
The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception will all be outdoors, rain or shine. The areas will be tented if it is raining. There are no paved paths on the island, so stiletto heels are probably not a great idea. Also, even though it is in Maine, it could be hot/sunny so black suits are discouraged.
For most guests, your visit will be bracketed by boat rides, which can be chilly even on a warm day. The ride back to Portland will be at night, so you’ll be glad you have a suit jacket/blazer for gentlemen or a sweater or shawl for ladies.
We would like to encourage people to stick with the color scheme of the wedding if possible. We are wearing white/ivory, blues, aquas, greens, browns and grays.
The Pied Piper will be leaving from the Portland Ferry Landing, centrally located in the Old Port District, adjacent to the Casco Bay Lines Parking garage (left).
There is a small public park where people can gather or arrange to meet at Flatbread where we will be the night before for the Friends + Family Gathering or Rí Rá Irish Pub (right). Just be sure you don’t miss the boat. Refreshments will be available once the ferry is under way.
This is a photo of the park at the entrance of the dock where you will catch the wedding day ferry. Look for the RED buoy and BLACK anchor.
Welcome to our wedding blog!
If you are reading this, you already know two important facts:
1. We are getting married!
2. The big day is July 14, 2012.
The ceremony and reception will both take place on Sturdivant Island, a small private island off the coast of Maine, just north of Portland in Casco Bay. On the day of the wedding, guests will board a chartered ferry leaving from the Portland Town Landing. The dock is within easy walking distance of downtown Portland. Check out the “Destination” tab for help finding accommodations.
We will be posting information in the weeks/months to come as the day approaches:

How do you get from Portland, Maine to Sturdivant Island?
Wedding guests should arrive at the Portland Town Landing Dock at 3:30pm on Saturday July 14th ready to board the Pied Piper, a ferry boat chartered just for the occasion. Enjoy a summer cruise and arrive right on time for our wedding ceremony. After an evening of dinner and dancing the ferry will return to pick guests up at 10pm and bring them back to Portland.
One coastal wedding surprise for us was that the Pied Piper cannot land on our dock at low tide. So the schedule of events is wholly dependent on the tide! Check out tide predictions for July 14th on the NOAA website.
